"During my early career, I was fortunate to receive a great deal of support from this industry. So, having enjoyed a most worthwhile and satisfying career, I am pleased to be able to give something back. Young professionals all over the world could greatly benefit from the kind of training and support that Aspire aims to provide, resulting in exceptional leaders for the industry of tomorrow."
Professor Alan G. Waller OBE, FCILT, Vice President for Supply Chain Innovation - Solving EFESO, Former President of the Chartered
Institute of Logistics and Transport in the UK
"I am pleased to introduce myself as the new President of the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport in the UK. It is a great honour to be selected by the Board of CILT to represent and reflect the interests and priorities of the Logistics and Transport industries - particularly in such challenging times.
As is always the case, in times of financial difficulty, those who suffer most greatly are those who are the least able to support themselves. It is for this reason that I am so please to announce the formal launch of Aspire - the CILT Careers Foundation.
Aspire is a new kind of Careers Foundation. It will enable people in our vital industries to build an international community that will foster career development, while supporting the delivery of effective logistics and transport solutions in a rapidly changing world.
Aspire will provide financial solutions for members of the global logistics and transport industries who are unable to access funding to training and development opportunities by any other means.
It will help individuals and businesses across the freight, passenger transport and supply chain industry to transform their operations thought the professional development of their aspiring professionals, inspiring them to achieve their ambitions and fulfill their potential.
I would encourage you, then, to support Aspire to the very best of your ability, for the successful future of our industry and the investment in the people who will continue to take it forward. If you have any queries regarding supporting The Aspire Foundation in its aims please do contact us.
I thank you in advance for your support of Aspire now and in the future."
Graeme Mcfaull FCILT - President - CILT (UK) CEO - Wincanton
"I was an early school leaver, and my first job was as a junior with British Rail in 1950. I had no interest in railways or transport at that time but my interest developed and I quickly realised how little I knew about the economics of transport and distribution. British Rail were very good employers in terms of providing educational opportunities and before I was 18 I had taken a Certificate Course in Economics at Manchester University, after which I sat the CIT qualifications. These qualifications provided the bedrock for my later education and enabled me to succeed to top senior positions in British Rail and as the MD of Freightliner Ltd. Participating in CIT events proved to be a remarkable networking opportunity and certainly helped me to gain promotion.
I served as an Associate Member on the CILT Council on two separate occasions and have always believed strongly in the advantages that CILT has to offer. In my retirement, I became the Director General of the Institute and served for 10 years. It was the opportunity for me to give something back to the Institute and help to expand its overseas membership. I have seen at first hand how important education is and how difficult it is for many young people to access this without financial support. Hence my involvement in now assisting in any way I can to realise the objectives of the newly established Aspire Fund."
Cyril Bleasedale OBE - FCILT
"Having been fortunate in my thirty year logistics career, party through a great education, partly through a structured management apprenticeship, and most definitely thanks to the colleagues I have worked with along the way; I will do what I can to support anyone wishing to pursue their ambitions in this tough, fast moving and exciting industry."
Paul Carvell FCILT - Former Chief Executive, Business Post Group Plc
"I found my way into logistics relatively late (at age 39) but the move certainly gave my career a fresh impetus. I believe that supply chain roles offer a unique combination of experiences in commercial negotiation, strategic thinking, new technologies, the adrenaline rush of keeping a real time operation and running and the sheer intellectual challenge of complex problem solving. I certainly got all of these and more, plus a great practical understanding of how businesses work out of my time in the profession. Despite having retired in 2004, I feel that my experience is still very relevant today, and I would very much like to give back something to the profession by supporting ASPIRE and helping others to enjoy the same good fortune. Not only can ASPIRE help people with their careers financially, but it can also offer access to an unparalleled network of experienced contacts willing to pass on their learning. By supporting ASPIRE; experienced professionals can help build a dynamic and vital new generation of qualified practitioners."
Phil Whiteoak FCILT - European Logistics Development Director and Regional Logistics Director for the UK and Ireland in Mars Europe (1993-2000)
".....Supporting Aspire is a great way to put something back into the industry and to become involved in a very worthwhile cause. It is a highly deserving charity, and I am very pleased to have the opportunity to contribute, both through volunteering my time and financial support."
Beth Cauldwell FCILT, Managing Partner Snowdon Tate Executive Search
"Having spent over thirty years in Logistics industry, and still learning new things about the profession every day, I really do appreciate the need for first class training and development. For that reason I am pleased to try to give something back to the industry through supporting Aspire in every way I can and by encouraging others to do the same."
David Grahamslaw FCILT - Director, Logiflex Consulting & Board Member & Trustee CILT (UK)
"I have enjoyed the best of times, met outstandingly talented and dedicated people and had the most fun doing something I really have come to be passionate about as a career. I would encourage everyone to consider a career in our industry passenger or freight and to get involved with ASPIRE it is a wonderful opportunity be a part of shaping something special for the future."
